Qi Gong - Introduction Print E-mail

Qi gong represents conjunction of breathing patterns, movements and meditation, with main purpose of strengthening internal energy (qi) which lead to health improvement and securing harmony between man and universe.

Qi gong teaches us how to achive balance between Yin and Yang with own forces and in that way enable continuous energy (chi) flow through our body.

Yin (阴) & Yang (阳) - two primary forces, oposed but complementary, included in every part of universe;

Qi gong (pronounced chi gong - 气功) translated means

Qi - air, gas, energy

Gong - virtue, merit, accomplishment

There are hundreds of different qi gong patterns, from very simple which are performed in sitting position, to very complicated and demanding forms.

Qi gong exercises are connected with chinese martial arts, in which are used as way to impact opponent with both physical force and internal energy (qi) and also as a way to protect from attack of opponent. Even one chinese martial arts division (on hard and soft styles) is based on qi gong influenceto them.

Figures 1 and 2 are showing two characteristic qi gong positions. Fig. 1 shows starting and ending qi gong position, while on Fig. 2 we can see one element from basic qi gong exercise.
